3 Tips on How to Have a Good Weekend

Learning how to have a good weekend can provide variety, relaxation, and life long memories that you can recall fondly.

The life kits Podcast team hosted an episode on how to have a better weekend – I have my three favorites below, and if you like these tips be sure to check out the rest of the Podcast episode here.

How to Have a Good Weekend

Tip #1: Find a sense of ahh ahh

Take two minutes to write up questions that you’ve always had. For me, some examples are I’ve wondered how to jump-start a car, how to make the perfect over-easy eggs, and if there are some easy magic tricks to pick up. Once you have your list, keep the list in a place you will find it. Then on Saturday morning, take five-minute to research one of those questions. You will answer something you’ve always wondered while also getting to expand your mind by learning things that you want to learn.

It also helps you be more innovative. See this guide on how to be more innovative like Leonardo da Vinci!

The Podcast also talked about expanding our horizons beyond just learning new things. The above example is something that is easy and can be done anywhere. But beyond finding a sense of ahh ahh, you can also find a sense of ahh. Studies show that finding wonders in nature or experiencing new activities helps people feel more relaxed and report higher life satisfaction.

Tip #2: Do new things with the people you enjoy

It is easy to fall into a routine with our weekends. Doing the same kind of things, seeing the same people, and accomplishing the same errands. I am all for structure and doing the sure-fire enjoyable things. However, doing too much of the sameness can cause a rut and make all the weekends feel like they blur into one. To overcome this, there are two tips offered.

The first is to do new things with the people you regularly spend time with. Go to an escape room one weekend, or ax throwing, or to a restaurant none of you have tried. Do new things together to build new memories. If it turns out to be something everyone hates, sometimes that is even better! When things are laughably awful those become some of the best memories.

The second way to step out of the routine is to meet some new friends. Use sites like meetup to expand your friend circle and find people who share similar interests. Meeting new people will break the routine and make the weekends feel different.

Tip #3: Plan something fun for the end of the weekend

No matter how great your job is, Sunday afternoon blues always come creeping in. If you let the Sunday Blues gets you down, you have lost some of your weekends being sad about losing the weekend. It’s the ultimate salt in the wound. To overcome this, plan something fun on Sunday evening. Maybe it’s a quick bite out with friends, staying in to cook a gourmet meal, quietly read/draw/paint, or to get one last night out. Plan something fun to maximize the Sunday and get rid of the Sunday Blues by being too distracted by enjoying Sunday evening to even notice the Monday morning creeping up.
