Why the Name?

A Mobius strip is a surface with one continuous side formed by joining the ends of a rectangular strip after twisting one end through 180 degrees.

Sounds fun, right?

This mathematics principal has seemingly nothing to do with personal development. So why is the Mobius Strip being used as the name for a personal development blog?

Because there are many similarities between Personal Development and The Mobius Strip!

To provide a quick visual illustration, check out the video below to see The Mobius Strip in Action. Notice how the ball goes around the entire one-sides object.

The Similarities Between The Mobius Strip and Personal Development

  • Both are continuous: There is no definitive start or end. Progress keeps going forever. Just as a ball on this loop can go on forever, so does personal development. There is no end goal, and there is always something else that can be improved.
  • Can be made multiple ways: The Mobius strip can be created in many ways with any number of twists – just like everyone’s life is different. Beyond that, the ideal life everyone is working towards is different too. There is no right or wrong way, just your way.
  • Twists and turns: The Mobius Strip can have many twists and turns, just like life. Despite these twists and turns, people are still on the same life path. Regardless if it is a positive turn, such as a big promotion or a negative loop like being laid off, it is still that person’s personal life path. It is in these moments of change that life can turn upside and can offer a new perspective. These twists and turns can be painful, but people are still on their life path to fulfilling their dreams.
  • One-sided: The Mobius Strip is one-sided, it appears to have an inside and an outside, but if you trace your finger all along with the shape, you will realize that it is all just one side. Personal Development is just like this. There are internal influences, such as our thoughts, perspective, and emotions. Then there are outside influences such as family, friends, and the news. In personal development, all of these influences are seemingly inside or outside, but they flow into each other. Creating one shape, which in the end is the person we become and the life path we take. It is the choice of the individual on which influences to accept.  In the end, you can pull all the experts, ask family and friends, do research, but  it is up to the individual to create the life they want and develop into it.
  • Development can be hard to track: As the ball on the loop, it keeps going forever and ever. It becomes difficult to see where you’ve been and how you have developed.

The Blogs Philosophy

The goal of the blog is to help people develop into their unique ideal life.

Personal Development is on the individual, but that does not mean that you are alone in your journey to self-improvement. The Mobius Strip blog was created because everyone has a different life path and different ideas of what their ideal life looks like to them. There is no right or wrong answer.

Just because everyone is on their own path does not mean we cannot learn from others on the time-honored and researched traditions of how to make the most out of life. Be it your professional aspirations, personal relationships, or what peace of mind looks like to you.

The Mobius Strip blog helps lifelong learners develop their unique ideal life by providing researched insights on everyday aspects of life.
